International Day of Older Persons– ’24 was observed in Kishoreganj on Tuesday.
This year’s theme is ‘Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide’.
The United Nations General Assembly, on December 14, 1990, decided that October 1 would be celebrated annually as International Day of Older Persons. In line with this groundbreaking decision, Bangladesh has been observing the day since 1991, along with the rest of the world.
The Department of Social Services including District Administration in Kishoreganj have organized a rally, discussion marking the day .
A discussion meeting held at local Callectorate conference room on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishoreganj Fouzia Khan as Chief guest, while Deputy Director (DD) of Social Services Md. Kamruzzaman khan in the chair.
It was addressed among others by, ADC (Education & ICT) kazi Mohua Mamtaz, as special guest, Sadar UHFPO dr.Tarek Anam, Assistant Director of Social Services Shahidul Islam and Medicine Specilist professor dr.Mohiuddin Ahamed.
DC Fouzia Khan said that, the contribution of older people to the advancement of civilization is undeniable. With the progress of medical science and the improvement of socio-economic conditions, the number of elderly people is increasing in Bangladesh, as in the rest of the world.
