Staff Reporter :

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on October 4, following a trip to Pakistan, according to diplomatic sources.

This visit aims to bolster bilateral relations and development strategies between Malaysia and Bangladesh, particularly under the guidance of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has confirmed that Anwar’s agenda includes meetings with Dr. Yunus and Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

These high-level discussions are expected to enhance cooperation, especially in areas related to the welfare of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, contributing to the establishment of a welfare-oriented state.

Anwar’s visit follows a recent phone conversation on August 14, during which he personally congratulated Dr. Yunus on his appointment and
expressed his intent to visit Bangladesh soon.

In return, Yunus reiterated his commitment to protecting the rights of all Bangladeshis, including minorities, and extended an invitation for Anwar to visit and strengthen the fraternal relationship between the two nations.

During their conversation, Anwar emphasised Malaysia’s readiness to support Bangladesh’s interim government and collaborate in the pursuit of prosperity and democracy.

Yunus expressed hope that the visit would result in greater employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.

As political dynamics evolve in Bangladesh, Anwar’s visit signals a potential turning point in bilateral relations, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to fostering collaboration and mutual support.

Malaysia is one of the primary destinations for Bangladeshi workers, who contribute significantly to the Malaysian economy, benefiting both nations.

The Malaysian labour market is particularly attractive to Bangladeshi workers due to cultural and religious similarities, as well as geographical proximity. However, the market has often been complicated by syndicates seeking to control the system.

It is expected that Anwar’s visit will address these issues and strengthen the cooperation between the two countries. Given the close relationship between Dr. Yunus and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the visit is anticipated to reshape and deepen Bangladesh-Malaysia relations, resolving many of the existing complexities and paving the way for greater collaboration.
