DU Correspondent :

Expressing concern over the absence of Islamic scholars in the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) review committee, students and teachers of the Islamic Studies Department (ISD) at Dhaka University (DU) have called for the inclusion of experts from the Islamic Studies and Arabic departments.

At a discussion meeting on Thursday, chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Sanaullah, Chairman of the department, participants emphasised that revising textbooks without the involvement of Islamic scholars and religious awareness would be inadequate.

The department also demanded that Islamic education be made compulsory at all levels of the mainstream education system—primary, secondary, higher secondary, and universities—to preserve the morals and values of the Muslim majority in Bangladesh.

The meeting further addressed the composition of the NCTB committee, urging the inclusion of Islamic scholars to ensure proper revision and alignment with the country’s religious and cultural values.
