Hearing on contempt notice against Tajul, others on Apr 5

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday set April 5 to hold further hearing on a contempt notice served against advocate Tajul Islam and five others.
The tribunal on January 12 issued the notice upon Jamaat acting ameer Maqbul Ahmed, its nayeb-e-ameer Mujibur Rahman, Jamaat acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman, advocate Tajul Islam, Shibir president Abdul Jabbar, and its general secretary Md Atikur Rahman.
The first tribunal passed the order allowing a petition submitted by the prosecution on January 1, which said that after the pronouncement of verdict in the trial of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, defence counsel Tajul Islam held a press briefing and made adverse comments against the verdict.
Jamaat too called a two-day shutdown in protest against the death sentence awarded to its leader. On January 28, Barrister Badruddoza Badal and advocate Ruhul Quddus Kajol appeared for Tajul and pleaded for unconditional apology.
Yesterday, lawyer AY Moshiuzzaman, counsel for the Jamaat-Shibir leaders, sought more time for preparation. Accepting his plea, the tribunal adjourned the hearing till April 5.
