In a Joint forces operation by law enforcement forces including Army, Vat department, and local administrations, a significant haul of counterfeit cigarettes and fake band rolls seized from two tobacco factories named Heritage Tobacco Company in Kuliarchar and Tara International Tobacco in Bhairab port town of Kishoreganj on Wednesday.
The operation led by Army in Bhairab Camp, lt.Colnol Farhana Afrin, Acting UNO also Executive Magistrate Redawan Ahamed,Depury Commissioner of Customs excise and vat Shohel Rana, Executive Magistrate Samiul Islam and Assistant Director (AD) of Environment. A mobile court also fined two tobacco factories tk. 4 lahks for various irregularities,like . Fake bandrolls (tax stamps affixed to cigarette packets) and cigarettes were also seized. According to NBR, the estimated revenue loss from these counterfeit products as approximately tk.26 crore. Later, The mobile court found various irregularities like fake bandrolls and used bandrolls can be found. Major environmental defects are also identified.
