The Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association has announced that it will implement a seven-day half fare for students travelling on buses in metro areas.

The association’s general secretary, Saiful Alam, shared the updates in a press release on Monday.
The decisions are as follows: from Tuesday, students will be eligible for half fare on buses from 6am to midnight, seven days a week, instead of the previous five-day scheme; students must wear their uniform or carry a valid student ID to avail the half-fare facility; and this policy will only be applicable within the metro areas.

Saiful said there was a meeting on August 21 at the central office of the association, where leaders of the Nirapad Sarak Chai movement and the transport association discussed various issues related to student half fares and the road transport sector.

Leaders of the movement pointed out that since December 1, 2021, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority had implemented the half fare for students on weekdays, excluding Fridays and Saturdays, through a circular.
