Massive fire breaks out due to electric short circuit

A tragic fire broke out in the home of Afzal Hossain in Charmirkamari Mathalpara village, Ishwardi, on Wednesday morning around 8:30 AM, resulting from a short circuit while boiling eggs in an electric jug.

The devastating blaze left the entire family with severe burns, and they estimate the loss at approximately Tk 30 lakh. This incident underscores the dangers of electrical appliances when used near gas stoves, highlighting the urgent need for safety awareness in households.

It is known that the housewife Munni was busy cooking in the morning. Boiled eggs are placed in an electric jug next to the gas stove in the kitchen. The fire started due to the short circuit of that electric jug.

Afzal Hossain’s son, Monir Hossain, a local resident and victim, said that in the morning, while working at Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute, I got the news that the house was on fire and rushed home. Tried to put out the fire with the help of locals.

Ishwardi unit of fire service reached the spot on receiving the information but by that time everything was burnt to ashes. Monir also said that 5 pieces of gold jewelery used by his wife and 45 thousand rupees in cash were also burnt to ashes in the cupboard.

Regarding the origin of the fire, Monir said that when the fire started from the electric jug hit the gas cylinder next to it, it quickly spread to the house. Basically: Gas cylinders go out of control due to fire.

Monir’s brother Shaheen said, our 5 bed rooms, room furniture, 2 kitchens, 2 fridges, a cattle shed and about 30 lakhs worth of property have been burnt to ashes. During the fire, part of the kitchen of neighbor Nuru was burnt.

Amirul Islam, Wire House Inspector of Ishwardi Fire Service, said that the fire was reported at 8:38 in the morning and reached the spot at 8:46. We quickly brought the fire under control after reaching the spot. But everything in 6 houses was burnt. It is not possible to tell the extent of damage initially.
