BCB announces BD Women’s squad for T20 Women’s WC

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Wednesday the 15-member Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket squad for the upcoming ICC T20 Women’s World Cup (WC), which is scheduled to be held at the different venues across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to October 20.

Though the UAE Cricket Board will arrange the gala extravaganza for the women’s cricket team, but BCB has all rights of the mega event including financial rights . It may be mentioned that most of the cricketers of Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team are now Sri Lanka to take part the five-match T20 cricket series against Sri Lanka ‘A’ Women’s Cricket team.

Chief of the Women’s Wing of the BCB, Habibul Bashar said, ” The T20 Women’s World Cup is knocking at the door. Our women are working hard to reach their target in the ensuing World Cup.”

Taj Nehar has been included as the newcomer. Experienced Jahanara Alam has retained her position. Rumana Ahmed has been dropped from the squad.

The cricketers, who have been called in the Bangladesh National Women’s squad, are: Nigar Sultana (Captain), Nahida Akter, Murshida Khatun, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Sobhana Mostary, Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, Fahima Khatun, Marufa Akter, Jahanara Alam, Dilara Akter, Taj Nehar, Shathi Rani and Disha Biswas.

A total of 10 teams splitting into two groups will take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa and West Indies have been placed in Group-B, while Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been billed in Group-A.

Bangladesh will take on Scotland in their inaugural match of Group-B on October 3, the Tigresses will face England in their second Group-B match on October 5. Bangladesh will meet West Indies in their third Group-B match on October 10, the Tigresses will take on South Africa in their last Group-B match on October 12.

The top two teams from each group will get tickets of the semi-finals. The winning teams of the semi-finals will face each other in the final.
Before taking part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches. Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first warm-up match on September 28. The Tigresses will meet Pakistan in the second warm-up match on September 30.
