Sheikh Arif Bulbon :

Nahida Afroz Sumi is a popular presenter of this generation. Sumi has a great reputation in the media as a personable
and knowledgeable presenter about music. That’s why Sumi is usually seen in music events. Producers of TV
channels have a lot of faith in her when it comes to music programmes.

But Sumi used to sing at one time – especially Rabindra Sangeet. She studied in Dhaka University’s Department of Music (Honours and Master’s). Her subject of study was Rabindra Sangeet. She completed her M.Phil research on ‘The Use of Raga in Rabindranath’s Bhanga (Broken) Songs’, which can also serve as a temporary listing for her future PhD programme, according to her.

Sumi’s research topic was so fundamental that many people often work with this research paper as a reference.

Later, she worked as a presenter for eight years in ‘Colors FM’. In 2016, she started presenting on TV with the presentation of RTV’s ‘Magic Bauliana’ programme. After that, Sumi became quite popular by presenting various programmes including Nagorik TV’s ‘Bangla Baul’, Ekushey TV’s ‘Moner Moto Gaan’, and BTV’s ‘Bangladesh er Hridoy Hote’ on different occasions for several years. Since 2017 till now, she has been regularly presenting NTV’s (Friday) ‘Chhutir Diner Gaan’ programme. She has presented the programme ‘E Logon Gaan Shonabar’ since 2018 on same channel. She also presented the ‘Music Fest’ programme on SA TV.

September 16 was birthday of Sumi. She said that she
spent her birthday with her family.
Regarding her works, Sumi told this correspondent, “Before working in radio I was quite focused on music. But when I started working on the radio after my father’s death, I gradually moved away from music. Since the song is Gurumukhi Bidya, I have not done the song in addition to the presentation.

Since I have Honours and Master’s in Music, I am comfortable doing more music related events. I can always do research with my mind. But I want to do PhD in the future.”
Meanwhile, Sumi also won praise as a model in Yousuf Ahmed Khan’s song ‘Olosh Somoy’. After that she modelled in two more songs of Yousuf and two songs of Mahtim Shakib.
