Despite unrest of the unrest in Savar, Gazipur , the RMG factories about running 350 units in the port city Chattogram are operating smoothly. Owners, trade unions, industrial police closely working with the workers to sustain peace and good working environment. While some workers have staged protests demanding unpaid wages, there have been no significant disruptions such as factory shutdowns, attacks, or vandalism.
According to BGMEA , factory owners, trade unions, and industrial police are working together with workers for the past few weeks to prevent unwanted unrest .. Special monitoring teams have been established to ensure smooth factory operations. Data from BGMEA show that Chattogram is home to approximately 350 running garment factories affiliated with BGMEA and Export Processing Zone (EPZ), employing around 7,lakh workers.
However, political instability and reduced orders are causing delays in salary disbursements at some factories. Efforts are underway to clear the arrears, he said.
