Kazi Salahuddin decides not to contest in upcoming BFF election

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Salahuddin decided not to contest in upcoming BFF election, scheduled for October 26, 2024.

Kazi Salahuddin, The four-time BFF president since 2008, made the announcement at the federation headquarters on Saturday.

“I have served four terms, and I consider myself fortunate to have had this opportunity. I will not I won’t contest in the BFF election that is due on 26 October. This is my final decision. I’ve come here to announce this decision,” the BFF chief said the reporters.

Salahuddin said, “I thank you all for working with me over the last 16 years. There were moments of understanding and misunderstanding – which is natural – but I hold no grievances. I hope you feel the same. Thank you very much for your support. Let’s hope for the best for the BFF and for football.”

There had been requests to defer the election, but FIFA stood firm on the scheduled date. “The BFF Election will be held on October 26. Some individuals requested to delay the election, so we sent a letter to FIFA regarding the matter. However, FIFA instructed us not to postpone the election, even by a single day,” Salahuddin explained.
Salahuddin was first elected as BFF president in 2008 and has successfully won the subsequent three BFF elections.

However, Kazi Salahuddin on 13 August said he would not resign, rather contest in the BFF election to serve a fifth term in office.
