DU Correspondent :

A group of Dhaka University (DU) students staged a demonstration demanding a complete ban on all forms of politics on campus, including student, teacher, and staff politics.

They also called for the DU Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections to be held to elect student representatives.

The students made their demands known at a protest rally held at the Anti-terrorist Raju Memorial Sculpture on Friday.

Prior to the rally, they brought out a procession and marched across the campus, expressing their strong opposition to campus politics.

“We will not return to classes, which are scheduled to start on September 22, unless politics is banned on campus by that time,” said the students while addressing the rally.

The protesters chanted various slogans against campus politics, including “No more campus politics,” “This campus will not be a hub for party politics,” and “Feed the halls, bury student politics.”

The agitators also warned against attempts to obscure the issue by using technical terms.

“Don’t try to manipulate the issue of banning politics with technical language,” they said, adding that the ban on student politics was one of the key points of their nine-point anti-discrimination student movement.

They further claimed, “Some people are trying to obfuscate the issue of banning politics on campus in order to allow its continuation.

However, we want to make it clear—student, teacher, and staff politics must be banned on this campus.”
