UNICEF opens campaign in Sylhet to prevent early marriage, child repression

Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Abu Ahmad Siddiqui NDC said that everyone should be aware to prevent violence against children and child marriage. Violence against women and children, child marriage, sexual harassment has become a social disorder. Everyone has to work from their position to prevent these diseases. He said, as a result of child marriage, young girls have to fall into the lap of death by getting pregnant at a young age. Most of the time both mother and child suffer from malnutrition. He called on everyone to teach children about family and social values to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh by stopping violence against children.
He said the above words in the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the multi-media campaign at the departmental level to prevent violence against children and child marriage under the UNICEF aided Accelerating Protection for Children project under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs under the initiative of the Directorate of Women Affairs Sylhet at a city hotel at the Dargah Gate of Sylhet on Tuesday.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet (General) Debjit Singh, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Subarna Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mahfuza, Chief of UNICEF Field Office Sylhet Qazi Dil Afroza Islam also attend the programme as special guest.
Shahina Akhtar, Deputy Director, Directorate of Women’s Affairs, Sylhet, gave a welcome speech in front of the slogan “Let’s protest, stop violence and raise red card”.
Civil Surgeon in Sylhet, Director of Islamic Foundation, Deputy Director of Department of Social Services, Deputy Director of Information Department, Deputy Director of various districts of Directorate of Women’s Affairs, officials of various public and private organizations, UNICEF representatives, Project Team Asiatic were present in the ceremony conducted by Child Rights Facilitator Pianka Roy. , journalists from print and electronic media were present.
The event showcased our actions to prevent child abuse and child marriage through a multimedia campaign. Chief guest Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Abu Ahmad Siddiqui NDC along with guests displayed “Let’s protest, stop violence and raise red cards” in the event.
