Bangladesh’s record in Test cricket against India is far from impressive, with 11 losses in 13 matches and only two draws. Bangladesh lost all three Tests played in India.
However, after their historic Test series victory in Pakistan, Bangladesh are hopeful as they prepare for the upcoming series against India. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has expressed that the team is determined to meet expectations this time.
Bangladesh is currently training at Mirpur ahead of their tour of India. On Monday, after a practice session, off-spinning all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz spoke to the media.
“When we play well, everyone’s expectations increase.
It’s important for us to perform well. If we can do that, we can fulfill our own expectations too. There will definitely be challenges. We’ve played Test matches in India before, but our past performances haven’t been good. This time, we’re going with some expectations. We hope to enjoy meeting those expectations.
If we can compete with them, we’ll have a chance to do well. Our aim will be to fight hard against them,” Miraz said.
After whitewashing Pakistan, Bangladesh has instilled a sense of caution in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is hosting the upcoming bilateral series, starting on September 19, very seriously. It has formed a strong team to challenge Bangladesh in both batting and bowling.
Miraz mentioned that Bangladesh are ready to take on the challenge from India.
“Test cricket is always challenging. Every session, every ball, everything is a challenge for both batters and bowlers. India are definitely good team. Their bowlers are very good, and so are their batters. We’ve played on their wickets before and have some experience of how the pitch behaves.
I think the wicket will be good there. If we continue to play the way we’ve been playing, and focus on our performance rather than the results, then good results will come.”
Bangladesh aim to maintain the momentum from the Pakistan series into the India series. “Every series is challenging. Since we did well in the Pakistan series, and there isn’t much of a gap between the two series, we’re still in form. If everyone stays in good form in India, then we can certainly hope for something positive.”
