Bangladesh is keen to work closely with Nepal in the power sector and enhance bilateral trade, said Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Advisor for Power and Energy, on Sunday.
His remarks came during a meeting with a two-member delegation led by Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, at the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources in Dhaka.
During the meeting, Senior Secretary of the Power Division, Md Habibur Rahman, and Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, Abdul Baki, were also present.
Welcoming the Nepalese Ambassador, Adviser Fouzul Kabir emphasised that Nepal has always been a long-time friend and close neighbour of Bangladesh.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening ties through regional forums such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
The Nepalese Ambassador congratulated the adviser on his new role and praised the longstanding relations between the two nations.
Bhandari expressed Nepal’s hope to continue and deepen this cooperation, mentioning that Nepal has supported Bangladesh since the student movement in its early days.
Key topics discussed included Bangladesh’s plan to purchase 40 MW of hydroelectric power from Nepal, a joint venture to establish the 683 MW Sunkoshi-3 hydropower plant, and a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) for the import of 500 MW of power from Nepal’s GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Limited (GUKHL).
Both sides also stressed the need for enhanced cultural exchanges and other initiatives to further strengthen the bond between the two countries.
