BNP Standing Committee Member, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, on Friday accused the ‘ghosts’ of deposed leader Sheikh Hasina of continuing to hatch conspiracies against Bangladesh, even after her removal from power.

Speaking to journalists while distributing relief materials in Muhuriganj Bazar, Feni, Dr Zahid suggested that the recent floods in the southern part of the country were part of a larger plot.

“The flood that hit the southern part of Bangladesh is also part of the conspiracy because Hasina’s close ally, India, opened the dam without informing Bangladesh,” he said.

The relief distribution programme was organised by the Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal, following directives from BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Dhaka South City Unit BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Swechchasebak Dal president SM Zilani, General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, and local BNP leaders, along with representatives from other front organisations, were present at the event.

Dr Zahid issued a warning to those conspiring to destabilise the readymade garment (RMG) sector, stating that they would face dire consequences.

He highlighted the suffering of people in south-eastern districts, including Noakhali, Feni, and Comilla, who have been severely impacted by flash floods triggered by India’s release of dam water without prior notice to Bangladesh.

“The flood has caused enormous damage to the wealth and belongings of ordinary people.

Many houses, cattle, goats, and fishing farms have been washed away, and crop lands have been destroyed by the floodwater in these districts,” Dr Zahid lamented.

He also mourned the tragic loss of life, including the drowning of children in the floodwaters.

He expressed his gratitude to BNP leaders, activists, and other organisations for their swift response and assistance to the flood-affected communities.

Dr Zahid further alleged that a vested group is attempting to incite unrest in the garment sector during the nation’s transitional period under the interim government. “But no conspiracy will succeed.

The people of this country will foil all the plots of these culprits with united efforts,” he asserted.
