7 member team led by Yunus to attend UNGA

With a small team of seven members, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government Dr Muhammad Yunus is going to attend the upcoming UN General Assembly session scheduled for September 22-27 at the UN headquarters in New York.

Earlier, Foreign Adviser told the journalists in his ministry that Dr Yunus would attend the UNGA and his will lead a small team, only necessary for the purpose.

The entourage will include Yunus’s daughter Deena Afroz Yunus, Chief SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, Economist Debapriya Bhattacharya, Drik Managing Director Shahidul Alam, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Mahfuz Alam, Private Secretary Sabbir Ahmed and Brac University student Ayesha Siddika Tithi.

Chief Adviser’s Office Director AKM Moniruzzaman said it in an office order. Dr Yunus will return home shortly after the visit. It would his first foreign visit.

Muhammad Yunus is also likely to meet a number of leaders there at the sidelines. Foreign Ministry is working on it.

When Foreign Ministry said that Dr Yunus would attend the UNGA with a small team, it grabbed media attention and there were talks on different platforms because people were habituated to see a bulky entourage during the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government.
