And may everyone be well, I also pray with their families,” Sabina Yasmin, the living legend of the ‘bird of song’ in the music arena of Bangladesh, said this on Tuesday about her birthday.
This legendary singer was born in 1954 on this day (September 4). Her real name is Dilshad Yasmin Sabina.
Sabina Yasmin is such a musician that her great contribution is only in the song of the country, she will live in the bosom of this Bengal for hundreds of years. Her rendered patriotic songs at various times throughout the year thrill, inspire and also move us. The patriotic songs sung by her on various national days of the country is like the courage to walk the new path of the future.
Apart from patriotic songs, Sabina Yasmin has sung thousands of playback songs. And that’s how Sabina Yasmin has become one of the most beloved artistes of this country and Bengali speaking – a living legend.
Sabina Yasmin also told this correspondent about her birthday, “I miss my father, mother and sisters very much on my birthday. But after getting everyone’s love, I try to forget that pain. As I used to hide new clothes on Eid, I used to do the same even on my birthday. I used to take out these clothes on my birthday. Actually the joy was different. In fact, I miss the joy of family.”
In 1962, as a child artiste, Sabina Yasmin first sang in movie ‘Notun Sur’ directed by Ehtesham under the music direction of late eminent composer and music director Robin Ghosh.
However, in 1967, she started her career as a playback singer to lent her voice for the song titled ‘Modhu Joshna Dipali’ in movie ‘Agun Niye Khela’, directed by Amzad Hossain and Nurul Haque Bachchu, under the music direction of late Altaf Mahmud.
This noted singer won the National Film Award for 14 times, including the Ekushey Padak in 1984 and the Independence Award in 1996.
In 1975, Sabina Yasmin won her first National Film Award for singing in the movie ‘Sujon Sokhi’ directed by Promodkar (Nickname of Khan Ataur Rahman). After that, she won the National Film Awards for playback in Amjad Hossain’s movies ‘Golapi Ekhon Traine’, ‘Sundori’ and ‘Kosai’, Chashi Nazrul Islam’s movie ‘Chandronath’, Moinul Islam’s movie ‘Premik’, Bulbul Ahmed’s movie ‘Rajlakshmi Srikanto’, Amzad Hossain’s movie ‘Dui Jibon’, Kazi Hayat’s movie ‘Danga’, Matin Rahman’s movie ‘Radha Krishno’, Mohammad Hossain’s movie ‘Aj Gaye Holud,’ and Chashi Nazrul Islam’s movie ‘Debdas’ at different times.
Meanwhile, in 1971, the song titled ‘Jonmo Amar Dhonnyo Holo Mago’ written by Nayeem Gohor and sung by Sabina Yasmin to the tune of Azad Rahman inspired the freedom-fighters.
For the first time in her life, Sabina Yasmin worked as a music director in the first movie titled ‘Ei Tumi Sei Tumi,’ which was directed by late noted film actress Kabori.
