City Desk :

The vehicular movement in the Rampura-Badda area slowed down, and heavy traffic congestion was created after an oil truck broke down on the roadside on Tuesday.

As a result, heavy traffic congestion has been created in Rampura, Banasree, Merul Badda, Gulshan Link Road, Nadda and Kuril Bishwa Road areas.

It takes about one and a half hours to cross the 20 to 25-minute road by vehicle.

The fuel oil truck broke down in front of Jamuna Future Park around 6am on Tuesday.

A regular commuter from Badda to Kuril, Md Sharif Khan, told media: “The metro rail construction has been ongoing on this road for a long time. Usually, the traffic moves intermittently. Today (Tuesday), we had to stop for 30-40 minutes at one place.”

“It usually takes me 30-40 minutes to travel from Badda to Kuril, but today (Tuesday) it took two hours. The vehicle was stationary for 40 minutes on Rampura Bridge.”

There has been a long tailback on Badda-Rampura road since the morning, making it difficult for officegoers and others to reach their destinations on time.

Commuters said, the tailback occurred due to maintenance work at the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) office in front of Brac University in Badda. Police, however, attributed the traffic congestion to an increased number of vehicles today (21 May).
