Police arrested Shajahan (29), the main accused in the case of kidnapping and killing an old man named Sirajul Islam Fakir (65) in Ishwardi for ransom, on Saturday (August 31) late night. Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Ishwardi Police Station Monirul Islam said that the killer Shajahan is the son of Ajibar Rahman of Barichara village of Ishwardi Police Station.
Ishwardi police station informed about the incident that Sirajul Islam, the father of the plaintiff Al Amin working in Rooppur nuclear power plant, left for Ishwardi Bazar on an easy bike from Rooppur intersection on August 24 after night duty. The people of the house were worried because he did not return home at noon. In the meantime, at around 2.15 pm, Sirajul’s son Al Amin was suddenly informed by phone that his father has been kidnapped and detained in an unknown place. Demanding ten lakh rupees for ransom, it is said that the money should be paid by Monday. Then Al Amin got his father’s phone switched off. On the morning of August 26, the abductor called again and asked whether the money had been arranged or not. Al Amin went to Dashuriya as per the kidnapper and failed to contact the man. Al Amin was called several times that day. Al Amin told the kidnapper at one stage that he would pay if he spoke to his father on the phone. The abductor then became enraged at the plaintiff and hurled inaudible abuse. After searching, he did not find his father and made a general diary at the police station on August 26.
During a search with the help of the police, on Saturday, August 31, at 1:40 p.m., the half-melted body of Sharifuzzaman Bulbul (50) was found in the bathroom of the south-east corner of the 4th floor flat of a four-storey building on the north side of Ward 1 Rahimpur Gorasthan of Ishwardi Municipal Area.
