Black money whitening scheme to be scrapped

The government has decided to end the controversial practice of whitening black money, as announced by Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Thursday.

The decision was taken during an Adviser Council meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at his official residence, Jamuna, in the capital.

Adviser Rizwana Hasan briefed the media following the meeting, stating, “An order is being implemented to reverse the policy.

Previously, it was said that black money could be made white. Now, the opposite is true.”

She explained that the government determined the financial gains from allowing black money to be legalized were minimal compared to the ethical and societal costs involved.

The decision to scrap the black money whitening scheme marks a significant shift in government policy, which has previously allowed this practice as a revenue-boosting strategy.

Rizwana Hasan emphasized that the government is committed to ending this practice and has already initiated steps to curb money laundering.
