Eden College BCL leader’s body recovered

On Wednesday night, police recovered the body of Shaila Akter, a student and leader of the Eden College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), from a sub-let flat in Lalbagh, Dhaka.

Shaila, who was a second-year Physics student at Eden College, was found in her flat at House No. 167/2/A, Rasulbagh. She had been living there alone. Her body was discovered by her friend, Khushbu Akter, who found Shaila hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf around her neck. Black marks were also noted on her neck, leading to initial assumptions that it might be a suicide.

Lalbagh Police Station’s sub-inspector Ajay Krishna Pal confirmed the recovery and stated that Shaila’s postmortem was conducted at the Dhaka Medical College morgue on Thursday morning. The exact cause of death is still under investigation, pending the postmortem report.

Shaila, originally from Dhankhali village in Kalapara upazila, Patuakhali district, was also the vice-president of Kalapara Upazila Chhatra League. Police are currently examining all details of the case to determine the precise cause of death.
