Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has alleged that extortion is being carried out in various places using the student movement coordinators’ names.
He made this statement to the media during his visit to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) office in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Thursday afternoon, reports media.
“Signatures are being forged for filing cases. We have no involvement with these activities,” he said.
Another coordinator, Sarjis Alam, added: “We informed the ACC that for the past 16 years, the ousted fascist government has harassed those it dislikes by filing false cases. Some people face family issues, and false cases are filed against them; others have problems with land deposits, and again, false cases are filed.
We have asked that this does not happen anymore. We also stressed that no political party should be able to use false cases to harass anyone.”
Hasnat Abdullah further said: “We are receiving reports that our name is being used to gain illegal advantages. They have no legal authority to provide or take any benefits.”
He emphasized that the ACC should operate according to its laws, adding that their visit to the ACC was to clarify that no one should be able to exploit the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s name for personal gain.
Meanwhile, a human chain was formed outside the ACC office in the afternoon, demanding the resignation of the commission’s chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah.
