A joint operation by Customs Intelligence and the National Security Intelligence (NSI) led to the arrest of a man at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Wednesday. The individual was found in possession of 1,372 bhoris of gold.
The arrested person has been identified as Hossain Ahmed, son of Nurul Islam from Goramarakandi village in Goainghat upazila, Sylhet.
According to Hafiz Ahmed, Director of Civil Aviation of Sylhet, the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. A team from Customs Intelligence and NSI intercepted a passenger arriving on flight BG-252 from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. During the search, 105 gold bars were seized from the passenger.
The authorities have confirmed that legal action will be taken against the arrested individual.
