AL won’t bow down to illogical demand: Nasim

Health and Family Welfare Minister and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim said here yesterday that Awami League would not bow down to any illogical demand of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
“So, no election will be held before 2019 and there will be no dialogue with those killers. If required, dialogue can be held with the Election Commission on the polls of 2019,” he said.
Mohammad Nasim said this while speaking as the chief guest at an elite gathering after paying a visit to Patuakhali Medical College and the 250-bed hospital in the district town.
Principal of Patuakhali Medical College MA Mannan chaired the function, also addressed, among others, by Chief Whip ASM Feroze, former minister ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar, MP, former state minister for textiles AKM Jahangir Hossain, MP, former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman Talukdar, MP, Lutfunnessa, MP, former state minister for religious affairs Advocate Md Shahjahan Miah and director general of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Haque.
Mohammad Nasim said, “Like the ongoing World Cup Cricket, the election game in Bangladesh will be held in the year 2019 and then it can be witnessed who comes out as winners. For that election, Khaleda Zia can take preparations for her participation.”
Turning to the country’s current political situation, the senior Awami League leader said, “The nation would have experienced promulgation of martial law had the January 5 national polls of last year not been held. The situation of Bangladesh would have been like that of Thailand. Taking risks upon her life, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina completed the polls then for the sake of protecting the constitution.”
He alleged that the accomplices of the defeated forces of 1971 like BNP and Jamaat have been engaged in politics of killing after failing to foil democracy in the country and they have now been killing innocent people by blasting bombs in the name of siege-hartal programmes.
The minister said the government is pledge-bound to ensure health-care services to the common people with limited resources but it’s not possible for the government alone to render the services to a huge population.
So, he urged the non-government organisations and affluent people of the country to come forward to reach the healthcare services to the people’s doorsteps.
At the function, the minister announced allocation of Taka one crore for development of the library of Patuakhali Medical College.
