Staff Reporter :

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) president Hasanul Haque Inu, a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s political landscape, was arrested on Monday from the capital’s Uttara area, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Deputy Commissioner Faruq Hossain of the DMP’s media and public relations division confirmed Inu’s arrest, stating that it was in connection with a case filed at New Market Police Station.

The veteran politician, who has long been an ally of the ruling Awami League-led 14-party coalition, was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road following his apprehension.

Hasanul Haque Inu, who previously served as the Minister of Information in one of the Awami League government’s cabinets, has been a significant player in the political arena for decades.

Despite his longstanding ties with the Awami League, Inu recently faced a setback when he lost in the 12th parliamentary elections to a rebel candidate from the ruling party in a Kushtia constituency.

The specifics of the case leading to Inu’s arrest have not been disclosed yet, and it remains unclear what charges he may face.

The arrest of such a high-profile political figure has sparked discussions and concerns within the political community, particularly given JASAD’s alliance with the Awami League.

As the situation develops, more details are expected to emerge about the reasons behind Inu’s arrest and its potential implications for the broader political landscape in Bangladesh.
