A discussion meeting was held recently at the invitation of Md. Mizanur Rahman, Managing Director of Kailash Tila Gas Field and Petrobangla, the leaders of the National Oil Gas Protection Rights Implementation Struggle Council to demand priority in the jobs of the locals along with house to house gas line connection in Golapganj Upazila.
Petrobangla GM Panna Lal Dhar, GM Md Farooq Hossain, GM Pradeep Kumar Biswas, GM Kamrul Islam Sardar, GM Abdul Jalil Pramanik and others were present during the discussion organized in the hall room of Petrobangla, Golapganj.
The leaders told the Petrobangla administration in their separate statements that there are 8 gas wells in Golapganj area. Due to oil and gas production there, the water level of local homesteads is dropping. After digging two hundred feet and spending lakhs of rupees, water is not available. Compensation was not received after drilling of gas well No. 8 and acquisition of the site.
Locals are unable to sleep at night due to over-dealing. He demanded the permanent employment of locals in Pettobangla, the construction of a gas-based 50 megawatt power plant with the oil and gas produced in Golapganj. The leaders said that local Golapganj residents should be given jobs on a priority basis. A few years ago, lakhs of rupees were given as security with the application for residential gas line connection to the houses of the local public. Gas connection has not been given till date. The leaders said that the oil gas produced from 3 gas wells in Golapganj is going to the national grid. But the locals are not able to enjoy this benefit. A fair investigation was demanded against those who looted well No. 7. The leaders said that before the drilling of well No. 8, the administration of Petrobangla said that the locals will be given jobs on priority basis and gas connection will be provided from house to house.
Mizanur Rahman, managing director of Petrobangla, listened to the leaders and said that he has noticed all the fair demands raised by the locals. There are plans to drill more gas wells in the future.
