Staff Reporter :

The BNP has accused deposed dictator Sheikh Hasina of continuing to conspire against Bangladesh despite being removed from power.

The allegations were made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press briefing at a hotel in Sylhet.

Mirza Fakhrul claimed that as the country stabilises under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Sheikh Hasina, who is reportedly in India, is plotting against Bangladesh.

“When the country is turning around, the fallen dictator Hasina, sitting in India, is making a deep conspiracy against Bangladesh. It won’t succeed,” he asserted.

He dismissed any potential impact of Hasina’s actions on the people of Bangladesh, stating, “No conspiracy of Sheikh Hasina would work to mislead the people of Bangladesh.”

The BNP Secretary General stressed the need for building a truly democratic Bangladesh by addressing the remnants of past governance.

He expressed the party’s willingness to grant the current interim government a reasonable period to organise an acceptable election after reforming the nation’s institutions. However, he emphasised that this support is not indefinite.

“The caretaker government led by Justice Latifur Rahman gave a fair election in just three months,” he noted.

Mirza Fakhrul reiterated BNP’s full support for the interim government, which he described as composed of capable individuals tasked with helping the nation recover following Hasina’s fall from power.

“We will continue to provide them all sorts of assistance,” he affirmed.

The BNP leader also addressed the recent severe floods affecting parts of the country, pointing to India’s actions as a contributing factor.

He accused India of causing the floods by opening dams without prior warning and criticised the lack of progress in ensuring fair water sharing from common rivers.

“This terrible flood happened as India opened their dams. They didn’t even give any forecast before opening the dam,” he said.

He also accused India of using water aggression as a strategic weapon, recalling the disappearance of BNP leader M Ilias Ali during Hasina’s regime, who had led protests against such actions in Sylhet.

Following the press briefing, Mirza Fakhrul and his party colleagues visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.M.) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R.M.), where they offered prayers. Among those present were BNP Chairperson’s advisers Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Tahsina Rushdir Luna, and several BNP leaders from Sylhet.
