A local Awami League leader and his cousin were brutally hacked to death by miscreants at Wazirpur upazila in Barishal district, reportedly due to a previous quarrel related to establishing local supremacy.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Saturday night in the Satla Bridge area near Satla Bazar.
The victims have been identified as Idris Hawlader, a local Awami League leader, and his cousin Sagor Hawlader.
According to local sources, Idris Hawlader and his cousin were returning home on a motorcycle from Idris’s business establishment when they were ambushed near Satla Bridge.
The assailants stopped their vehicle and attacked them with sharp
weapons, leaving both men critically injured. Passersby rushed the victims to Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex, but due to the severity of their injuries, they were referred to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College. Unfortunately, Idris Hawlader succumbed to his injuries that night.
His cousin Sagor Howlader, who was also severely injured in the attack, died around 9:30 AM on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Upon receiving information about the incident, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene. Md Zafor Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Wazirpur Police Station, confirmed that the bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
“The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue,” OC Zafor Ahmed said, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous crime.
