Md Sadek Khan, the former Member of Parliament for Dhaka-13, has been arrested in the Nakhalpara area of Dhaka, according to officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The arrest, confirmed on Saturday, comes as part of a wider crackdown on Awami League leaders following the recent ouster of former leader Sheikh Hasina.

Sadek Khan, a notable figure within the Awami League, was detained in connection with a case filed at Mohammadpur Police Station over attack on former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat in 2018.

However, DMP officials have yet to reveal the specific charges against him.

This arrest is the latest in a series of detentions involving high-profile Awami League leaders, reflecting the ongoing shifts in Bangladesh’s political landscape after Sheikh Hasina’s departure from office.

The situation has fueled speculation regarding the future of the Awami League and its leadership, many of whom have been scrutinised by the new interim government as it addresses allegations of corruption and abuse of power during Hasina’s rule.

As investigations continue, further details about the case against Sadek Khan and its potential ramifications for other Awami League leaders are anticipated.
