Tanvir Alam, Roving Correspondent (North Bengal) :
Those who were engaged in brokering the Awami League government in the name of journalism will not have a place in the Bogura Press Club. They need to be expelled from the organization as soon as possible. We on behalf of the ‘anti-discrimination media movement’ Bogura branch are declaring those brokers unwanted, say mainstream Bogura journalists.
They said this at a protest rally organized by the ‘Anti-discrimination media movement’, Bogura branch, at Bogura Press Club premises on Saturday.
The mainstream journalists also alleged that former president Mahmudul Alam Nayan and former general secretary Amjad Hossain Mintu have embezzled crores of taka in the name of building Bogura Press Club.
During the ousted AL government, this AL broker journalists also pocketed the money allocated by for the poor and sick journalists. Nothing could be said against them about these. They occupied office bearer posts of the Press Club by force for a long time without voting, it was alleged from the rally.
After the country became independent for the second time, professional journalists expelled them and formed a convening committee. Various allegations about financial corruption are slowly coming out in the investigation of that committee.
Allegations have also been raised that the district BNP president is indulging them. Awami brokers, expelled from the Press Club, had a secret meeting with district BNP president Rezaul Karim Badsha on Friday night.
To stop the conspiracy of these Awami broker journalists, the Bogura branch of ‘Anti-discrimination media movement’ held a human blockade and protest in Bogura. Coordinator Abdul Wadud presided over the program held under the chairmanship of Chief Coordinator Prateek Omar. Convening committee member of Bogura Press Club and head of Banglavision’s Bogura Bureau Abdur Rahim and General Secretary of Journalists Union Bogura SM Abu Saeed also spoke.
Among others, who spoke at the protest rally included ‘Anti-Discrimination Media Movement’ Bogura Branch Coordinator of The Daily New Nation Roving Correspondent Tanvir Alam Rimon, Dainik Amar Sunder Desh Publisher Harun Ur Rashid Talukder, Suman Sardar, Senior Journalist Mehdi Hasan Liton, Daily Jayzai’s Imran Hossain Likhan and others.
After the human chain, a courtesy meeting was held with the current convening committee of the Press Club. Press Club convener Wasikur Rahman Bechan and member secretary Sabur Shah Lotus listened to the demands of the anti-discrimination media movement and assured them to implement those soon.
