Shoriful Islam struck early as Pakistan scored 23-1, trailing by 94 runs at the close of the fourth day’s play during the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Pakistan made a shaky start as they lost opener Saim Ayub in the last session of the day. Saim (1) nicked Shoriful and was caught behind while playing a shot in the backfoot.
The day saw Mushfiqur Rahim miss his fourth double ton in the Test for just nine runs with some vital performance from Miraz and Litton, which propelled Bangladesh to take a 117-run lead, scoring 565 in reply to Pakistan’s 448.
Mushfiqur achieved his 11th Test century, with this feat Mushfiqur became the highest run scorer and the record holder of most centuries in Test format from Bangladesh, surpassing Tamim Iqbal’s previous record of ten centuries.
Mushfiqur scored an impressive 191 runs, supported by Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77) and Sadman Islam (93) and Litton Das (56) helped the Tigers to topple Pakistan’s total and take lead over the hosts.
Mohammad Ali brought the wicket-keeper batter’s stellar innings to an end when he got an edge while attempting a square cut. He faced 341 balls to play the knock of 191, including 22 boundaries and a six.
Litton Das had to depart early after resuming the day on 316-5. Litton was dismissed on 56 runs facing 78 deliveries aided by eight boundaries and a solitary six.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz then joined hands with Mushfiq to add a 192-run partnership.
Naseem Shah struck in the first over of the day as Litton failed to cut and edged behind to the wicketkeeper after adding just four runs to his overnight score of 52.
Earlier, Mohamad Rizwan’s 171 and Saud Shakeel 141 propelled Pakistan to score a mammoth 448 in their first innings.
