Activists of the anti-discrimination student movement, alongside students of Dhaka University (DU), have launched a large-scale relief collection effort to support flood victims across the country, including those severely affected in Feni, Cumilla, and Noakhali.

The anti-discrimination student movement established a relief fund under the banner of ‘Ganatran,’ setting up a booth in front of the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) of DU. Students and residents of the city contributed both food items and monetary donations, enlisting their names as they provided support.

On Thursday afternoon, people from various parts of the city were seen flocking to the TSC to donate essential relief items such as white rice, bottled water, beverages, bread, biscuits, and flattened rice (chira). Saline and other necessary supplies were also brought in.

Inside the TSC, a significant amount of relief items had been stored, and volunteers were busy preparing food packets for the flood-affected people.

“We are collecting relief items and money to support our brothers, the flood victims. We have received tremendous support from the city’s residents and students.

Once we have gathered enough supplies, we will distribute them in different flood-affected areas tonight,” said Rokib Rana Masud, a DU student and volunteer involved in the effort.

In addition to this, students from various university halls began collecting funds on Wednesday night, both from their fellow hall residents and others outside the halls. They visited residential rooms, urging everyone to contribute to the relief effort.

Furthermore, individual students across the university have been independently collecting funds on campus and through social media platforms to help the flood victims. Similar initiatives are also being undertaken within different departments.
