Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Thursday granted four-day remand each for journalist couple Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed in a case filed over the killing of a garment worker in the capital’s Uttara during the July-August student protests.
The two accused worked in senior positions at Ekattor Television, but were sacked on 8 August, in the wake of ouster of Awami League government by student-led protests.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir placed them on remand after the Investigating Officer of the case asked for 10-day remands for each.
A day earlier, immigration officials detained the couple at the Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport when they tried to leave the country, and later handed them over to the Detective Branch of police.
On 8 August, the Ekattor Media Limited management team sacked Ekattor Television Head of News Shakil Ahmed and Principal Correspondent Farzana Rupa.
