Rashed Khan Menon, President of the Workers Party, was arrested by police from the Gulshan area of Dhaka on Thursday.
The arrest was carried out based on specific information, as confirmed by the Public Relations and Media Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Menon is scheduled to be produced before the court on Friday.
According to sources, Menon’s arrest is related to a case filed in connection with recent clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies.
The Workers Party, led by Menon, is a significant member of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, which has governed Bangladesh for approximately 16 years.
Menon has previously held ministerial positions in the civil aviation and social welfare ministries during separate terms.
