STUDENT massacre: 2 more murder cases filed against Hasina

Two separate murder cases were filed yesterday against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several high-ranking officials, including former ministers and law enforcement leaders, in connection with the deaths of two individuals during the recent anti-discrimination students’ movement in Dhaka.

The first case was lodged by Milon Hasan, brother of the deceased Liton Hasan Lalu, alias Hasan, who was killed in Mirpur on August 4.

The case accuses 148 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

The case was filed at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court under Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.

Other notable figures named in the case include former members of parliament Mainul Hossain Nikhil, Ilias Mollah, and Kamal Ahmed Mazumder, as well as former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harun-Ur Rashid, and former Additional Joint Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker.

According to the case documents, Liton Hasan was taking part in a peaceful procession in the Mirpur area on August 4, part of the anti-discrimination students’ movement.

At approximately 2 p.m., it is alleged that individuals associated with the ruling party at the time opened fire on the protesters, injuring Liton.

He later died from his injuries at Agargaon Neuroscience Hospital.

The second case was filed by Fidushi Khatun, mother of Tarik Hossain, who was killed in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on August 5. This case also accuses Sheikh Hasina, alongside Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, and State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, among others.

Tarik Hossain was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants in front of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

He was critically injured and died on August 9 at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
