A case has been registered against 108 people named and 100 to 150 unidentified people in the case of Chittagong College student Wasim Akram being shot dead during an anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Roads and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary AJM Nashir Uddin, former Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Naufel, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Rezaul Karim, former MP Mohiuddin Bachchu and CCC Councilor have been named as 108 accused.
On Sunday (August 18) night, Josna Akhter, the mother of the deceased Wasim, filed a case at Panchlaish police station in the city as a plaintiff, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish police station Santosh Kumar Chakma.Wasim Akram was shot dead in a clash between protestors and Chhatra League in Muradpur area on July 16 at around 3 pm.
He was a student of Sociology Department of Chittagong College and was in charge of the joint convenor of the student body of the same college. Wasim is the son of Saudi expatriate Shafiul Alam, a resident of Ward No. 9 of Sadar Union of Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar District.
Other accused include- Councilor Shaibal Das Sumon, Abdus Shabur Liton, Esrarul Haque Esrarul, Mubarak Ali, Haroon Or Rashid, Morshedul Alam, Noor Mostafa Tinu, Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni, Ashraful Alam, Ghiyas Uddin, Jaharlal Hazari, Hasan Murad Biplab, Ziaul Haque Suman, Pulak Khastgir, Nurul Alam Mia, Mohammad Wasim, Abdus Salam Masum, Zakaria Dastgir, Md. Feroze etc.
In the statement of the case, the plaintiff mentioned that between 3 pm and 4 pm on July 16, the deceased Wasim Akram was in front of Barcode Restaurant in Muradpur of Panchlaish police station. At that time there was a strong logical movement of students against discrimination.
During the movement, the cadres of Awami League, Jubo League, Swachhasebak League and Chhatra League all over the country, directly and indirectly fueled by the accused, carried out massive destruction with weapons.
On that day at 3-4 PM, Wasim was present at the spot and at that time on the instructions of the accused and their momentary bomb blasts and attacked the gathering with sticks, hockey sticks, crickets and firearms.
At one point, Wasim was shot in the chest and navel by the accused and fell down. Later he was rescued and taken to CMC Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
OC Santosh Kumar Chakma said, his mother has filed a murder case as a plaintiff in the case of the death of college student Wasim Akram during the quota reform movement in Muradpur. Names of 108 people including the former prime minister, ministers, mayor, former mayor have been named as 100 to 150 unknown people accused in the case.
