Staff Reporter:
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and Detective Branch (DB) Chief Harun-Or-Rashid over allegations of corruption.

ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yeasmin confirmed the probe in a statement to the media on Sunday, 18 August.

According to ACC sources, the commission has received multiple complaints alleging that these officials accumulated significant illegal assets through corrupt practices and irregularities.

The investigation was prompted by an intelligence report indicating substantial illicit wealth among the accused, highlighting the ACC’s commitment to tackling high-level corruption in government and law enforcement.

In a related development, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has directed all banks to freeze the accounts of former DB Chief Harun-Or-Rashid and his wife, Shireen Akter.

The BFIU’s directive, issued on 18 August, instructs banks to block any withdrawals from their accounts.
