The BNP high command has appointed the party’s Vice-Chairmen Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain as members of its highest policy-making body, the National Standing Committee.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced this at a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Friday. With the inclusion of these two leaders, the total number of the BNP’s standing committee members has risen to 16.
The standing committee comprises 19 posts, 17 of which were filled following the party’s sixth national council on March 19, 2016. The party inducted Mirza Fakhrul, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed as members of the highest policy-making body on August 8, 2016.
Among the 17 standing committee members, ASM Hannan Shah, MK Anwar, Tariqul Islam, and Moudud Ahmed have passed away. Another standing committee member, Lt. General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, reportedly resigned from his post and has remained inactive in politics.
On June 19, 2019, the BNP also included its Vice-Chairmen Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku in the standing committee.
The current standing committee members are:

Tarique Rahman, Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Zamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
Three posts in the party’s standing committee remain vacant.
