Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
In Ishwardi, the vegetable and meat market has calmed down, but the prices of rice, pulses and other daily commodities have not decreased.
As a result, all buyers, including the lower middle class, are worried.
Traders say prices of the commodity may fall further if the supply system in the market normalizes and supply is monitored at the mill and wholesale levels.
In July, the price of rice continued to rise amid student protests. Meanwhile, traders said that due to transportation problems, imports are low, so the prices have increased.
Now, even if there is no transportation problem, the price has not come down. On Friday (August 16), Ishwardi wholesale market sells coarse rice (Golden and China Iri) at Tk 52 to Tk 53 per kg. Medium quality (BR-28 and Pajam) rice is sold at Tk 56 to Tk 58 per kg, BR-29 at Tk 58, narrow or miniket rice at Tk 68 to Tk 72 and basmati rice at Tk 80 to Tk 82 per kg.
Wholesale rice seller Uttam Barasia said that now the transport system is normal. There is no problem in bringing and taking products. Still the millers increased the price of rice. If the government supervises the mills, the price will come down.
Meanwhile, the price of vegetables in the market has been decreasing for ten days. Raw papaya is being sold at Tk 30 per kg. Earlier it was 60 taka. Patol, dhandash, chichinga are being bought for 30 to 40 taka per kg. A couple of weeks ago, these vegetables were sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg. Cabbage, brinjal and cucumber are sold for Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg. Earlier these vegetables were sold at 70-80 taka per kg. Raw chillies are being sold at Tk 180 and Tk 200 per kg.
The price of potatoes has decreased slightly. Retailers are selling potatoes at Tk 50 to Tk 52 per kg. A month ago, a kg of potato was Tk 55 to Tk 60. Sanjay Sarkar, a vegetable trader in the market, said that the price of vegetables has decreased in the wholesale market. That’s why even if retailers reduce the price, the difference is very high.
