The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), staged a sit-in protest at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital, demanding the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her alleged involvement in the killing of students during the recent quota reform movement.
Hundreds of JCD leaders and activists from various units, including the central unit, Dhaka University unit, Jagannath University, and Dhaka College unit, gathered at the Shaheed Minar. They expressed their demands through speeches, poetry recitals, and protest songs.
The program commenced with the recitation of the National Anthem. JCD General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir conducted the sit-in protest.
The JCD leaders claimed that Sheikh Hasina had fallen due to the mass movement. They asserted that murderers, dictators, and fascists would no longer have a place in the country. They called for the international human rights tribunal to begin prosecuting the alleged genocide as soon as possible and demanded that Hasina and her collaborators be brought to justice swiftly.
Rakibul Islam, president of JCD, stated, “We have stayed at Shaheed Minar in support of the week-long program of the anti-discrimination student movement.”
“We have taken a stand at the Shaheed Minar to demand justice for the students who were martyred in the recent movement and for the missing and murdered leaders of Chhatra Dal over the past 15 years,” he added.
