Four police officers, including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail’s Mirzapur police station, have been withdrawn on charges of corruption, racketeering, nepotism and illegal trade partisanship.
As four police officers including the OC of Mirzapur police station have been withdrawn in one go, there is panic among the policemen. The withdrawn police officers are the officer in charge of Mirzapur police station. Rezaul Karim, second officer and deputy inspector of the police station Abdul Karim, Deputy Inspector Ramakrishna Sarkar and Deputy Inspector Md. Abul Bashar Mulla.
With the withdrawal of these officers, relief has returned to the area. Mirzapur police station is currently serving as the officer in charge of OC (Investigation) Inspector Md. Salahuddin Mia. No new OC has been appointed so far. Today, Tuesday (August 13), Tangail District Superintendent of Police and Mirzapur Police confirmed the incident.
According to the investigation, as the officer in charge Rezaul Karim, second officer and deputy inspector Abdul Karim, Deputy Inspector Ramakrishna Sarkar and Deputy Inspector Md. Since joining the Mirzapur police station, Abul Bashar Molla have been involved in extensive party activities, arrest trade, nepotism and various irregularities and corruption. The common people of the area including the policemen of Mirzapur police station were angry about their immoral activities. The victims complained that no one opened up about their fears when the Awami League government was in power.
From last July, student movement against quota reform and discrimination started across the country. From July 10, this movement took a terrible shape. On August 4, a one-party movement to topple the government was announced and various government offices, including police stations, were attacked, vandalized and set on fire across the country. On August 5, former Prime Minister and Awami League President Jannetri Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation letter to the President and left for India.
Meanwhile, anti-quota reform discrimination students and angry people of the area tried to attack the Mirzapur police station to arrest the four police officers. As the situation worsened, they were quickly withdrawn from the police station on the orders of Tangail District Superintendent of Police and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirzapur-Nagarpur Circle). As a result, no untoward incident happened at the police station.
