A Bangladeshi youth was shot and killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near the Ahedpur border in Chapainawabganj on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Md. Abdullah, was reportedly killed on Indian soil near the Ahedpur border in Shibganj upazila. Abdullah was the son of the late Nazrul Islam from South Nishipara in Narayanpur Union, Sadar upazila.
According to Abdul Alim, a local Union Parishad member, Abdullah and several other Bangladeshis had crossed the border into India on Sunday night. During this time, the BSF opened fire, resulting in Abdullah’s death on the spot. His companions, however, managed to return to Bangladesh unharmed.
Lieutenant Colonel Monir Uz Zaman, the commanding officer of the 53rd Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion overseeing the Chapainawabganj border, acknowledged hearing about the incident. “We have heard that a Bangladeshi has died at the border,” he stated.
In response to the incident, the BGB has sent a letter to the BSF seeking clarification. However, as of Monday evening, the BSF has neither confirmed the death nor responded to the letter. The BGB is continuing its efforts to gather further information regarding the situation.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions and security concerns along the Bangladesh-India border, particularly in areas prone to such confrontations.
