Staff Reporter :
Home Affairs Adviser Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain took a pointed jab at former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of serving the interests of others rather than the citizens of the country.

His remarks were made on Monday following a meeting with leaders of the Hindu coalition.

Sakhawat Hossain asserted that Hasina had voluntarily left the country and was not coerced into her departure.

He extended an invitation for her return but advised her to avoid inciting unrest or chaos upon her return. “You have been mentioning that you plan to return to the country.

But why did you leave in the first place? You left voluntarily. This is your country; you are welcome to come back.

However, please refrain from stirring up trouble. If you do, it will only agitate people further. We respect you,” he stated.

The Home Affairs Adviser drew a comparison with former Jatiya Party leader HM Ershad, who faced a choice between leaving the country or going to jail after his fall from power. Sakhawat noted that Ershad opted for imprisonment.

“You (Sheikh Hasina) should also return but do not push the country towards chaos,” he urged.

Sakhawat Hossain also criticised the Awami League, suggesting that they were aiming to hand over control of the country to others.

He reminded his audience of the sacrifices made for the country’s independence, saying, “30 lakhs of people gave their lives for the independence of the country.”
