Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced on Monday that soldiers will return to their barracks once the police resume normal operations.
He made this statement while speaking to journalists at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Monday.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman noted that there has been a positive improvement in the country’s law and order situation.
He stated, “If the situation continues to improve, all regular forces will carry out their counter-terrorism operations.” The Army Chief also revealed that 30 crimes against minority communities have been reported in 20 districts across the country.
He called upon political parties to abandon violence and engage in politics that serves the people. Earlier in the day, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held a meeting with senior government officials, including members of the Khulna Divisional Administration, District Administration, DIG, and the KMP Commissioner.
In a separate meeting on Monday, General Waker-Uz-Zaman met with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the State Guest House Jamuna. The meeting, which included senior Bangladesh Army officers, centred on national security and the military’s role in maintaining law and order.
According to sources from the Chief Adviser’s Office, Professor Yunus expressed satisfaction with the significant improvements in the country’s law and order situation. He commended the military for its active involvement in stabilising the situation.
Earlier in the day, Professor Yunus held a meeting with secretaries from over two dozen ministries. During this session, he reviewed the progress of various development projects being implemented across the country. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain was also present during the discussions.
Professor Yunus urged all citizens to contribute to building a new Bangladesh, honouring the supreme sacrifices made by individuals like Abu Sayed and others. He condemned the recent attacks on minority communities and called for unity in moving the nation forward.
In the afternoon, the Chief Adviser met with several civil society leaders, including former Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, renowned economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, and Debapriya Bhattacharya, a distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue.
