Train services across the country are set to resume on Monday, 12 August, following a week-long closure.

Initially, freight train operations will commence, with passenger train services following shortly after.

Md Nahid Hasan Khan, Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations), informed the media on Sunday, 11 August, that freight trains will begin running on Monday, marking the first phase of the resumption.

“Freight trains will run from 12 August, and mail, express, local, and commuter trains will run from 13 August,” Khan stated.

“Intercity trains will start running from 15 August,” he added, noting that the movement of Parabat and Jamalpur Express trains will remain temporarily suspended. Tickets for intercity trains will go on sale from 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Train services were disrupted in various parts of the country starting on 18 July, coinciding with the quota reform protests.

The disruptions escalated, leading to a complete halt in services after the then-government imposed a nationwide curfew on 19 July.

Commuter train services briefly resumed on a limited scale from 1 August to 3 August before being halted once again.
