Leaders and activists of Chittagong 14-party alliance led by ruling Awami League (AL) on Wednesday arranged anti-hartal rallies and processions in the city to protest against ongoing violence and anarchy of BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Thousands of leaders and activists of Chittagong 14-party alliance from different parts of the city gathered at Laldighi Maidan since this afternoon which virtually turned into a human sea.
The alliance arranged the rally as part of its central programme with AL Chittagong north district unit President Nurul Alam Chowdhury in the chair.
AL Presidium Member and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Road and Bridge Minister Obidul Quader, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur MP, AL central committee member Aminul Islam Amin, among others, addressed the rally held this afternoon.
Addressing the rally as the chief guest Engineer Mosharraf called for resisting the trouble makers who are destroying public properties and academic life of the students in the name of non-stop hartal and blockades by 20-party alliance.
Suggesting the BNP and its allies to take preparation for participating in the next national election in 2019 shunning the path of destruction, violence and anarchy, the minister said the present government will control them with iron hand.
Warning the hartal and blockade supporters, Obaidul Quader said time will come when the aggrieved persons would make counter-attacks on those who resort to arson and petrol-bomb attacks.
Addressing the rally, the 14-party leaders said the law enforcers have already identified the perpetrators and saboteurs.
“We know who are carrying out acts of sabotage and destroying public properties in the city.
We have identified their residences. Stop anarchy or sieges will be laid around their houses”, they warned.
Chittagong south district AL President Muslem Uddin Ahmed, City AL General Secretary (GS) A Z M Nasir Uddin, National Awami Party leader Ali Ahmad Nazir, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Jasim Uddin Babul, Workers’ Party leader Advocate Abu Hanif, AL leaders- Yunus Gani Chowdhury, Gias Uddin, and Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, among others, attended the rally.
Later, the leaders and activists led by Housing minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain marched towards Chittagong Press Club from the rally venue.
