The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has accused certain quarters of initiating a conspiracy by spreading false and unfounded propaganda about attacks on minorities, aimed at undermining the recently achieved political freedoms.

At a press conference held at the BNP Chief’s Gulshan office on Saturday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that while isolated incidents might have occurred, they should not be construed as communal but rather political in nature.

He condemned local and international media for perpetuating what he described as malicious propaganda suggesting that minorities in Bangladesh are under attack, and alleged that these reports falsely implicate BNP members.

“The recent false narratives being circulated about attacks on minorities are part of a deliberate attempt to disrupt the freedoms that have been recently gained,” Fakhrul said.

He added that the BNP is calling for an international investigation into the recent violence during student protests against discrimination to ensure transparency and accountability.

“The Awami League government has orchestrated raids on BNP leaders’ homes to obscure state-sponsored vandalism and to shift the blame onto the opposition,” Fakhrul claimed. He asserted that this tactic is intended to cover up the true nature of the unrest.

Fakhrul also highlighted the deaths of numerous students during the quota reform protests, criticizing the judicial investigation team’s handling of the cases as an effort to suppress the facts. He emphasized the need for an international probe to uncover the full truth.

In addition to calling for a UN inquiry, the BNP plans to formally request an investigation by the interim government into the alleged genocidal acts and the broader context of the recent student movement violence.
