Professor Dr Md Harun-ur-Rashid Askari has resigned from his position as Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy. The resignation was confirmed by Bangla Academy’s Public Relations Sub-division Deputy Director, Nargis Sanjida Sultana, in a press statement issued on Saturday, 10 August.
Prof Askari, who was appointed as the DG on 18 July this year, succeeded Muhammad Nurul Huda. Prior to his appointment at Bangla Academy, Prof Askari had a distinguished academic career.
He joined the English Department at Islamic University in July 1990 and was promoted to Professor in 2005. He also served as a visiting professor at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia from October 2008 to June 2013.
In August 2016, Prof Askari took on the role of Vice-Chancellor at Islamic University, a position he held before his recent appointment to Bangla Academy.
His tenure at the academy was notably brief, and the reasons for his resignation have not been disclosed.
